Multiplying Possibilities

Be a STEM Mentor

Who will I be mentoring?

Our program includes 6th-8th grade female students  who have an interest in a STEM field.

How will I benefit from being a Mentor?

Mentors have the ability to directly impact someone’s life by supporting dreams and ambitions and opening doors to possibilities the Mentee had not considered. Mentors have the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy to their work, industry, and community because they mentored a child.

How much time will be required?

Our Mentors and Mentees commit to a semester-long mentoring relationship, with an option to continue each semester. This includes weekly contact (face-to-face or email) and a monthly face-to face meeting.

I’ve never been a Mentor. Is training offered?

Chances are you’ve mentored someone and not even known it. If you have ever offered support and encouragement to someone, helped someone with a problem, given advice to someone that was taken, you have been a Mentor. Discoveries Unlimited will provide in-depth initial training on mentoring and the roles and responsibilities of a Mentor. We will also provide on-line training and support throughout the year.

What kind of background are you seeking in a Mentor?

We are seeking individuals who have a genuine concern for supporting and helping to develop today’s girls into tomorrow’s STEM industry leaders. If you have a willingness to share your knowledge and career experience and want to help foster and sustain another’s interest in your career, you are a potential Mentor for Discoveries Unlimited.

Is there an application process?

Yes. The process begins by completing an on-line application (under development). We require all of our potential Mentors to attend an Introductory Mentor training prior to being matched, so you can decide if mentoring is truly something you want to do. Finally, all of our potential Mentors will submit to an FBI background check prior to being matched.
